Privacy Policy

Liftspan (“Liftspan”, “we”, “us”) makes a strength-training app for lifters over 40. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions? Email dave@liftspan.fit.
The short version. We collect only what the app needs to coach you and sync your training: your email (to sign in), the profile and training data you enter, and your subscription status. Your data lives in a private database where only your own account can read it. The app has no ads and no third-party analytics or trackers; the web version keeps an anonymous count of which steps people reach. We do not sell your data. You can export or delete everything at any time.
Information we collect
- Account. Your email address, used to sign you in with a one-time code — there is no password. If you tick “Send me training tips and the occasional Liftspan update” when you sign in, we also use it for those emails, and we record that you said yes and when. You can switch them off in the app (Settings) or with the unsubscribe link in any email. Leave the box unticked and you only get sign-in codes and messages about your account.
- Profile you give us. Birth year, sex, height, bodyweight, training goal, experience, activity level, your chosen equipment/environment, and any joints or conditions you tell us to train around. Some of this is health-related (see below).
- Training data. Your workouts, sets, weights, reps, plan, streak, XP, badges, and bodyweight log.
- Subscriptions & purchases. On iPhone, handled by Apple; we receive your subscription status (trial / active / expired) through RevenueCat. On the web, handled by Stripe; we receive your email, subscription status and a Stripe customer ID. We never see or store your payment card.
- App Store search ads. If you installed Liftspan from an ad in App Store search, Apple tells us (through RevenueCat) which ad campaign and search keyword led to the install. That is Apple's standard ad attribution: it carries no name, email, device ID or tracking across other apps, so Liftspan never asks to track you.
- Email list. If you give us your email on liftspan.fit, for example to claim a founding price or to get a reminder before it ends, we keep it to email you about your plan and the occasional Liftspan update. Every email lets you unsubscribe, or you can email dave@liftspan.fit and we will remove you.
- Anonymous step counts (web app only). The web version of the app records which steps people reach, for example “finished setup”, “started a workout” or “opened the Pro screen”, so we can see where the app confuses people. Each record holds only the step, the time, the app version, and a random number created when the page opens and forgotten when it closes. It is not linked to your account, email, or any training or health data, it is not stored on your device, and it is not shared with anyone. The iPhone app does not send these counts, and the web app sends none if your browser has Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track turned on.
- Programs you import. If you import a program from a photo or pasted text, what you choose is sent to our server and to Anthropic, the AI provider that reads it, only to turn it into a program for you. We do not keep the photo or the text: we store only a count of your imports and how many lines were matched, for the monthly limit. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms, which do not allow it to be used to train its models. Imported programs are private to you.
- Feedback you send. If you use “Send feedback” in the app, we keep your message, the email you give (or your account email if you are signed in), any screenshot you choose to add, which screen you were on, the app version, and your device and browser type, so we can fix problems and reply to you. It never includes your training data. It is emailed to us through Resend. Deleting your account deletes your messages too.
- Minimal technical data needed to run the service, such as delivering your sign-in email.
Health-related information
The joints and conditions you choose to tell us, together with your bodyweight, are used only to shape your training (which movements to offer or avoid) and to show you your own progress. This information is never shown to a streak partner or to any other user, and is never sold or used for advertising.
Apple Health. On iPhone, if you give permission, Liftspan can save your completed workouts to Apple Health, including the workout type, its duration, and an estimate of the calories burned. We only write this data to Apple Health. We never read any information from Apple Health, and this data is not sold or used for advertising. You can turn this permission off at any time in the iPhone Health app or in iOS Settings.
How we use your information
To sign you in; to generate and adapt your training; to sync your training across your devices; to run streak partnerships you choose to join (using only the limited fields listed below); to send training tips and Liftspan news if you opted in; to process your subscription; to read and reply to feedback you send; and to contact you about the service when necessary.
What we do NOT do
The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs (the anonymous step counts above are our own and never leave our database). We do not sell or rent your personal information. Our marketing website (liftspan.fit) uses Google Analytics, the Meta (Facebook) pixel, the Reddit pixel, the Pinterest tag and the TikTok pixel to measure traffic and how well our ads work; these run only on the website, never inside the app, and never touch your training data. You can accept or decline them on your first visit, or change your choice any time with the “Privacy choices” link in the site footer.
Some pages on the website show a video from our YouTube channel. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play; once you do, the video plays from YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode) and YouTube’s own privacy policy applies to that playback.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf: Supabase (database and sign-in hosting), Resend (delivering sign-in emails and passing on feedback you send), Apple (subscriptions and app distribution), RevenueCat (subscription status), Stripe (web payments), and Anthropic (reading a program you choose to import). If you keep a streak with a partner, they see only your display name, your avatar, whether you logged today, your current daily streak and the streak you keep together — never your weights, bodyweight, age, conditions, or calories.
Your choices and rights
You can view and export all of your training data from within the app (CSV / JSON) at any time. You can correct your profile whenever you like. You can delete your account and all associated data — email dave@liftspan.fit and we will erase it. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (access, correction, deletion, portability); contact us to exercise them.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. If you ask us to delete it, we remove it from our systems (deleting your sign-in record cascades to your training data), subject to any limited records we must keep for legal or accounting reasons.
Security
Your data sits behind row-level security, so only your own signed-in account can read your rows. No system is perfectly secure, but we design to keep your training private to you.
Children
Liftspan is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
International users
Your data may be processed in the United States and in other countries where our providers operate.
Changes
We may update this policy. We’ll change the date above and, for material changes, note it in the app or by email.
